Emerging Sciences is a real time virtual classroom delivering contemporary and inspirational STEM Subjects, that aren’t typically taught at schools.

Students can study subjects including:

  • Nanotechnology
  • Frontiers of Physics
  • Biotechnology
  • Neuroscience
  • Nature and Beauty of Mathematics

ESV is a perfect way for Year 9 and 10 students with a passion for science to learn and collaborate with like-minded students in an online environment.

All students attend two one-hour classes facilitated online by expert teachers from the John Monash Science School, Victoria’s first specialist science school.  Students communicate with their specialty science teacher through video stream chat and Google apps. Every lesson is recorded to enable student to review and catch up on missed lessons.

Subjects run for 15 weeks each (or one semester). Each subject has homework, an assessment and a report and certificate issued on successful completion at the end of the semester.

A Liaison Teacher from the student’s current school is required to help with the initial technical set up, to assist with attendance and to provide support to the student if required.  Schools can register any number of students into the program. Some schools currently offer ESV subjects as part of student’s electives.

Assessment and Reporting

Our ESV teachers manage all of the assessment and reporting. There are many forms of assessment over the 15 week period including: presentations, quizzes, written assignments and a major project.  Our teachers issue interim reports mid semester and final summative reports at the end of the semester. These reports can be included in the reporting packages schools provide to parents.
