Marine Mammals

Explores marine biodiversity and conservation in south‑eastern Australia, focusing on species like the Burrunan dolphin and the impacts of human activity.

Course Overview

The Marine Mammal Foundation (MMF) ESV course consists of a series of sequential lessons designed to build student understanding of marine ecosystems. Key learning areas include marine mammal biodiversity in Australia, classification of the Burrunan dolphin, and ecological concepts such as populations and ecosystems. Students will also explore anthropogenic threats, human impacts on marine environments, and the role of young people in leading positive conservation change.

Learning Outcomes

Through this course, students will develop an understanding of south-eastern Australian marine biodiversity, discover how MMF research is informing evidence-based conservation management, and develop student-led projects and initiatives to mitigate anthropogenic threats.
